Trimodal brain encoding research
Our neural response layer is informed by the open literature on trimodal brain encoders, in particular TRIBE and TRIBE v2 (TRImodal Brain Encoder), developed and published by Meta AI (FAIR). The v1 architecture won the Algonauts 2025 challenge; v2 was published in March 2026, trained on over 1,000 hours of fMRI from more than 700 volunteers, predicting cortical response across approximately 70,000 voxels from video, audio and language.
TRIBE v2 is released by Meta under a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial 4.0 licence. Vanguard is an independent company. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or partnered with Meta Platforms, Inc., and nothing on this site should be read as a claim of affiliation. Meta, FAIR and TRIBE are the property of their respective owners.
The published research is one reference point among several. The scoring layer we run in production, the calibration dataset behind it and the thresholds we apply are our own work.
Pretrained encoders
Trimodal encoding architectures of this class draw on separately published pretrained encoders for each modality: large language models for text, self supervised speech models for audio, and joint embedding predictive architectures for video. Each is published by its originating research group under its own licence, and each remains the property of that group.
Public neuroimaging datasets
Open fMRI corpora collected and released by academic institutions underpin the published work in this field. We are grateful to the volunteers who sat in the scanners and to the labs that made the recordings public. Open data is the reason any of this is possible.
